Copwatch has published the Atlanta Police Department Policy Manual in order to give civilians information they need to fight police abuse. The manual includes all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) which APD officers are required to abide by.
This is the first time we know of that the full manual has been made directly available to the public (although any sensitive information has been redacted by APD). We hope it will assist victims of police misconduct in pursuing justice, and help advocacy groups better identify problems in police policy. A review of SOP sections which are especially relevant to our work is forthcoming.
These documents were obtained through a Georgia open records request, which allows anyone to obtain documents from the state or local government. You can investigate the police too!
